BRACES REMOVAL
Finishing orthodontic treatment
You are officially ready to complete your braces treatment. Now what? Removal, or debonding, of your orthodontic braces is a relatively simple procedure.
How are braces removed?
Final check
Your orthodontist will do a final check of your teeth to evaluate their alignment, bite, and make sure you are happy before braces are removed.
Removal
Dental braces are removed with special tools that easily clip the braces off, removing them and the orthodontic wire from your teeth.
Polish
The adhesive, or braces cement, will be polished off using a special instrument. Your orthodontist might also recommend fine-tuning certain edges of your teeth to give you the best results.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does braces removal cost?
Removal (debonding) of braces is something most orthodontists include in the overall cost of treatment. Retainers to maintain your results are typically included as well.
Does removal of braces hurt?
Though it is a quick procedure, removal of the braces can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially for patients with tooth sensitivity to cold. When braces are "clipped" off, you'll typically feel a brief amount of pressure on each tooth. The instruments that polish adhesive from teeth usually use air and water. For patients with sensitive teeth, you may be a bit sensitive to the air during this procedure. Your orthodontist can review ways to help with this.
Can you have braces removed if you are not a current patient?
Many orthodontists, including Dr. Godley, accept patients who would like to transfer their treatment into the practice. This includes patients with braces from out of state or out of town who have moved into the Zionsville, Indiana area. There are usually costs associated with either transferring your treatment, or having the braces removed by an orthodontist who did not place them and getting retainers.
